Meet Katie
Hi, I’m Katie. I earned my master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Johns Hopkins University, and I am a Maryland licensed, nationally certified counselor. My approach to therapy is rooted in a gentle presence and a strong sense of connection—what some have described as 'big sister energy.' I specialize in supporting women and teenagers as they navigate transitions, whether it's adjusting to life abroad, tackling career changes, managing stress, or rebuilding a sense of safety after trauma.
I believe that therapy is most effective when it feels like a space where you’re truly seen, heard, and understood. I work alongside clients as they explore their challenges and rediscover their strength. Together, we can address anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, and the overwhelming emotions that often come with change, helping you develop the skills to move forward with clarity, resilience, and confidence.
My Approach
Therapy with me is a process of deepening self-understanding and building a sense of agency, grounded in compassion, curiosity, and patience. I don’t believe in offering quick fixes or superficial solutions. Instead, my focus is on creating space where you can explore what’s really going on—without the pressure of having to “have it all figured out” right away.
I take a holistic approach that recognizes the complexity of each person’s story. Life isn’t simple, and healing isn’t linear. We all have layers to uncover, some of which we may have buried to protect ourselves or adapt to the demands of life. Whether it’s past trauma, the pressure of constantly striving, or the stress of juggling multiple roles, I aim to understand what drives the behavior, thoughts, and emotions you experience every day.
I use a combination of evidence-based tools, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Brainspotting, but it’s not just about the techniques—it’s about what works for you. I’m here to help you reconnect with yourself in a way that makes sense for your life, not some idealized version of it.
Together, we’ll work to identify the beliefs, habits, and patterns that may be holding you back, and explore ways to shift them so that you can move forward with clarity and confidence. It’s not about fixing you, but about supporting you as you cultivate resilience, emotional balance, and a deeper understanding of your own worth.
I see my role as a guide, not an expert. I’m here to walk alongside you as you navigate whatever you’re facing, offering insight, tools, and a compassionate perspective along the way.
Outside the Office
Originally from Idaho, I’m a wife of 20 years, a mother to three teenage daughters, an expat—first in Spain, now in Austria, and a sleepy-head during movies.
